This course will allow students to explore, in depth, the impact of the spiritual dimension of health within their own individual state of wellness, and to explore different ways to build a spiritual life. Topics include the difference between spirituality and religiosity; spiritual practices throughout the world; breath work; exploring the soul and the spirit; shadow work; components of spiritual health; review of current mind-body research; self-directed neuroplasticity; connecting; building and strengthening one's spiritual life; opening one's heart; meditation; contemplation; mindfulness; imagery; and the dying process and grief. Course Description
Introduces the scientific method as used in the study of humans as biological organisms. Focuses on human evolution and diversity, including genetics, evolution, primatology, paleoanthropology, human variation, and biocultural adaptation. Examines how humans relate to other living organisms and how the tools of science are used to reconstruct the past history of our species. Course Credit Limitations: Credit will not be awarded for both the honors and regular versions of a course. Course Description
This course provides an overview, from a psychological perspective, of human development throughout the entire lifespan from conception through death, including biological and environmental influences. Current theories and research in the areas of heredity and environment, emotion, intellect and cognition, language, socialization, personality, sexuality, maturation, and gerontology will be studied. Emphasis will be placed on identifying and encouraging normal development, with some attention given to recognizing and preventing abnormal patterns. Field trips may be required.
