Luis Garcia is the bilingual student services assistant for Oxnard College's Upward Bound program. Luis aids college bound students and their parents/guardians in the program with information and resources for college applications, A-G requirements, Financial Aid opportunities/FAFSA applications, and counsels in regards to students' current grades. Passionate with uplifting BIPOC students into higher education, Luis has previous experience in academic research, student success, community outreach, curriculum building, lecturing, and discourse in educational policy.

About

Dr Andrew LaFave (he/him/his) is the Interim Dean of Institutional Effectiveness at Oxnard College a two-year public Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). In his capacity as head of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, he leads the college’s SLO, CLO, and ILO evaluation programs, manages the institution’s strategic planning process, and collaborates with faculty and classified staff to improve student outcomes across the college.  Dr LaFave received his BA in Music History & Literature from St Olaf College, his MEd in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and his PhD in Urban Education Policy from the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California.

Dr LaFave has previously served in research and faculty roles at Moorpark College, Occidental College, the University of Southern California, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Dr LaFave is strongly committed to improving the diversity of higher education, and has spent the better part of the last twenty years working in and around educational opportunity programs. He has worked with education policymakers in three states to craft and implement high-impact legislation and education policy aimed squarely at creating more inclusive educational opportunities for marginalized and minoritized students from ethnically, racially, socioeconomically, and linguistically diverse communities.
