Course Description
This course surveys photographic and video techniques using digital cameras. Students will research and experiment in digital photography and video, which includes history, theory, production, presentation, and contemporary practices. Topics include digital camera operation (photo and video capture) and editing; photographic printing; basic lighting; artistic compositions, including an understanding of the elements of art and principles of design; scanning techniques; file compression and formatting; and use of related software. Emphasis is on technology, content, and theory for creative and commercial applications. New innovations in photography, video, and digital technology will be presented as they are developed. Prerequisites: PHOT V01. Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.

Course Description
Continues the exploration of photography as a creative medium with required technical and conceptual skills. Encourages personal expression through practice and the analysis of historical precedents. Includes such topics as exposure, color, white balance, contrast control, editing, digital printing, scanning negatives, Adobe Lightroom, and fine-tuning the camera. Explores in-depth natural and artificial light, including an introduction to studio lighting. Teaches Medium and Large Format photography techniques. Prerequisites: PHOT M10 or suitable portfolio. Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental techniques, aesthetic vision, and language of photography as a tool for communication, from its analogue roots to contemporary digital platforms. Students learn to operate SLR-style cameras for proper exposure, and students will use both film and digital capture, learning appropriate workflows from capture to print. The course includes demonstrations, lab work, readings, photographic shooting assignments, and critiques. Students may work with their own cameras or check-out cameras through the department.
