Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental techniques, aesthetic vision, and language of photography as a tool for communication, from its analogue roots to contemporary digital platforms. Students learn to operate SLR-style cameras for proper exposure, and students will use both film and digital capture, learning appropriate workflows from capture to print. The course includes demonstrations, lab work, readings, photographic shooting assignments, and critiques. Students may work with their own cameras or check-out cameras through the department. Field trips may be required. Notes: UC Credit Limitation: PHOT V01 and PHOT V02, combined - maximum credit, one course (see counselor). Formerly: Photo 1.Transfer credit: CSU; UC.

Builds upon basic studio lighting techniques and principles utilizing artificial light sources as used in commercial and fine art photographic applications. Furthers understanding of the control and quality of light in product photography. Includes instruction in photographing reflective and non-reflective surfaces, glass, metal, and food. Course Description
This course is an extension of the techniques learned in intermediate photography. Students will solve photographic problems utilizing procedures and equipment commonly used in the profession. Lectures and demonstrations will address traditional and contemporary photographic methods. This course will specifically teach the techniques of studio, environmental, and product photography, including large format image making. Students will also participate in professional printing, lighting procedures, and post-production techniques. Prerequisites: PHOT V04A. Field trips may be required. Formerly: PHOTO 4B.
