This course introduces major periods and styles of art across time and diverse cultures. Painting, sculpture, and architecture from prehistoric times to Post-Modernism will be explored with particular emphasis on the art object as a form of cultural and social expression. Works of art will be considered through the study of theory, concepts and terminology, themes, design principles, media, and techniques. Field trips may be required. Develops students’ learning strategies for college and life skill success. Examines and practices critical thinking, study methods, learning styles, time management, test preparation and test-taking, and self-regulated learning. Addresses psychological, physiological, and sociological issues that impact the culture of higher education and help prepare students for college readiness. Emphasizes improved physical health and cardiovascular fitness through running and overall conditioning. Includes endurance training with a gradual increase in distance.
