Joel Justice and wife.

Name: Joel Justice

Position:  Chief of Police

What does that entail?

My position as Chief of Police entails looking after the police department, the officers, cadets, and resources. I ensure that our three campuses are adequately staffed, officers are adequately deployed, and that they are visible on campus. I ensure that the officers provide a quality of service that is professional and inviting to our students.

How long have you worked for the district?

I have worked for our district for just over six years. Prior to that, I worked for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Were you a student at one of the district’s colleges and if so which one? What was your major and your degree?

I was not a student at one of our colleges. However, I obtained my master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Homeland Security.

Are you from the area and if not where are you from?

I am from and still live in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Share something personal about yourself:

I have been married to my best friend for over 27 years. We love going to the beach and the Channel Islands Harbor. We have one son, Matthew, who is attending college out of state and is now a senior. I enjoy scuba diving and playing racquetball.

What do you find rewarding about your job or career?

I find it rewarding to help students and faculty stay safe. Hopefully through contacts, conversations, and the active shooter response training I provide, I am making a difference in their lives and keeping them safe.

Two words to describe yourself:

Dedicated and jovial.

Do you do any volunteer work? If so, what?

I do some volunteer work. I provide security at my church.
