VCCCD would like you to get to know the staff and faculty who contribute their time, talent & education to the success of our students. We will regularly highlight employees across all four campuses, sharing their professional expertise, their educational path, and a few fun facts about them.
Dan Casey, Senior Payroll Technician, District Administrative Center
Describe your position in 2-3 sentences:
As a Senior Payroll Technician, I play a lead role in the payroll department and have primary responsibility for the faculty payroll. Serving in this role for the past seven years has brought me a great deal of knowledge, reward, and no small measure of challenges.
How long have you worked for the District?
I’ve worked for VCCCD for over 17 years.
Are you a VCCCD alum? If yes, which college?
Yes, I’ve had the pleasure of attending all three VCCCD colleges for various coursework. I took a majority of the units at Moorpark College.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
My wife and I enjoy travel above all else. We have traveled thousands of miles with our travel trailer, from the northern reaches of Washington to the thinly oxygenated Rocky Mountains. We have done some European travel too and hope to do more soon. We also love tasting wine on our travels.
Some people may not know this about me—I love to sing. After high school, I traveled with a music ministry all around the U.S. and spent three weeks in Haiti.
What do you find rewarding about your job or career?
The thing I find most rewarding about my job is that I am always learning. Laws, collective bargaining agreements, and District procedures change frequently, and we have to shift with those changes quickly. My career is rewarding, as it has been spent in service to the public and to lifelong learning.
Do you do any volunteer work? If so, what?
For the past few years, I have been pretty isolated because of kidney failure, the COVID pandemic, and a kidney transplant. My wife and I have been fortunate to be able to support Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, whose mission includes anti-human trafficking, refugee and immigrant support, and clean water initiatives.
Two words to describe yourself:
Confident and compassionate
Bonus Question: What’s your favorite song or album?
If you are a music lover like me, you know this is an impossible question. I will respond with this: I have been listening to The Japanese House lately. A good example of their music is “Good Side In.” A more obscure example of music I like is Nick Drake’s “Three Hours.”
